Mack Miyazaki, 76, will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays. He was born in Tokyo in 1935. His family moved to Takasaki City in Gunma Prefecture when he was young. After graduating from high school, he decided to move to Los Angeles in 1955.

Miyazaki graduate from Los Angeles City College 1959, and soon started Tokyo Landscape Company. He introduced beautiful, authentic Japanese gardens to Americans homes. His gardens incorporated elements of Japanese culture such as tea ceremony and flower arrangement, presenting Japan's comprehensive cultural style to the American public.

In 1970, he established the Miyazaki Insurance Company, with a mission of assisting Japanese residents of California to navigate the complicated U.S. insurance system. The company provided not only insurance but also bilingual counseling and referrals to law professionals for Japanese-speaking residents.

Miyazaki has been a lifelong active participant in Southern California's Japanese and Japanese American communities. In his college days, he established Akebono-kai to help fellow Japanese newcomers to adjust to American society. Later, at Optimist International Orange Coast Branch, he encouraged students' interest in international affairs and Japanese culture by offering scholarships and holding events like mochitsuki.

Miyazaki served as president of the Orange County Japanese American Association from 2005 to 2009. He participated in organizing Japan Culture Fairs, where local residents experienced Japanese culture in the forms of classical dance, taiko, tea ceremony, and many others. The OCJAA also initiated free flu vaccination clinic for seniors.

Miyazaki helped to re-launch the Southern California Association for Gunma Prefecture as president for four years. He also served as president of the larger Japanese Prefectural Association of Southern California in 2009.
